The textile industry shaped Langholm, and it was like many others a thriving textile town. Sadly the mills have all been lost and largely forgotten. Changes in fashion and manufacturing, reduced the number of workers required, overseas competition in developing countries also played a part in the mills demise. The highly skilled workers became less valued as the jobs moved miles away.
The talent and heritage in the town has not been apparent to younger generations. This is in part because the heritage was not presented in an eye-catching contemporary way. With my publication I have shown the history and heritage of the town in a modern form using images which reflect the sights and mood of the town and it’s industry.
