As a Fashion Technology student, my project focused on the nuts and bolts of what makes a garment protective and enjoyable to wear from the perspective of low-support needs autistic adults. Every aspect of fabric, fit, construction, colour and gendered expression was probed and analysed, with the crucial inclusion of autistic adults themselves in guiding the direction of the project. This was uncharted territory, no other research of this nature exists as yet. The results were surprising and informative, and it is hoped future researchers and clothing brands can carry this further, as this can benefit people and planet whilst being highly commercial. I achieved First Class Honours in BSc Fashion Technology with Diploma in Industrial Training.
