An Investigation into the Effectiveness of Children’s Clothing Design Safety Regulations within the Fashion Industry
"The inspiration for this honours project was taken from my experience in the Garment Technology department at Mamas & Papas. During this placement, it became clear to me that current regulations within childrenswear are of vital importance to multiple stakeholders, often with conflicting interests.
This project researched into the differing needs of parents, carers, users and industry professionals in relation to childrenswear safety regulations. Research into British guidelines was relevant as European regulations are due to be revoked from the UK childrenswear market, in line with Brexit.
This dissertation focused on the British mechanical safety, flammability and cord and drawstring laws within childrenswear. Recommendations were made on how current regulations could be improved to meet the needs of all relevant parties. "
