BROKEN

"Pity them who have broken their leg, not for the inconvenience of their condition, but for the sheer ugliness of the prosthetic devices they have to contend with. Why can't we offer more solace in such moments of need, be exalted to latter - day - dandies instead of having to traipse around with such plaster contraptions?" asks O'SuUivan

My collection portrays the contrast of orthopaedic injuries and the side effects that follow, inspired by the layer of casting and surgery that it takes to reconstruct a body part.

The collection is a mulitextural conceptual collection made with natural fabrics combined with the repurposing of expired bandages and orthopaedic casting to create textures that are unseen. The casting has been hand cared for to texturally develop the textile and create embellished effects. The shape inspiration of the collection is the idea of being trapped and stuck within yourself, this through high necked knitwear and large oversized outwear to emphasise the captivity with orthopaedic casts.

The collection has one strong message running through: I was not born to break.
