Due to the unfamiliarity of a Scottish travellers lifestyle they have always faced a negative connotation by society. They are seen as untrustworthy outcasts in early and modern-day society, however, this isn't how I view them; it is part of my heritage. I don't identify them for the way they are portrayed in history books or tv programmes, instead I have a first-hand family connection. I grew up hearing the experiences my mum had settling into 'the yard' and how this lifestyle has morphed my family into what it is today. They also have a deep-rooted mending/upcycling ethos which I ensured to incorporate, like using a torn sail throughout my designs. In my collection I wanted to capture these happy memories and shed light in a misjudged community.
