The Construct

The Construct is a collection captivated by extroverted city dwellers, and the lifestyle that comes hand in hand with the location they come from. I am designing for a female clientele who want to break free from their small town and emerse themselves into the lifestyle and opportunity that never sleeps. I’ve always gravitated towards the vibrant energy that New York City holds, whilst feeling confined by my surroundings that glue me to my small home town, this trapped feeling changed after spending my exchange semester in NYC.

Taking influence from art deco buildings, NYFW, and the hustle and bustle of the people who make New York as special as it is. My collection will gravitate towards a classic New Yorker - business street style, whilst pulling on our inner creativity through manipulated, quaint design features and extended silhouettes for a S/S 24 collection.

Outfit 1: A metallic denim produced with silver foil is used for the skirt and corset co-ord - denim and silver, two key trends for S/S 23/24. The corset is finished with a ruched tulle feature from the top seam, blue toned top-stitching and fastens with hook and eyes. The hanki style skirt is double layered to produce further volume, an exaggerated silhouette in comparison to the tightly fitted corset. Styled with a power mesh, roll neck vest top.

Outfit 2: A satin, cape sleeve, collarless shirt with off centre buttoning is layered with a macrame, halter style top made from raw edged recycled denim strips, loose fitting to create depth and movement - exaggerated by the contrast between materials. Paired with a high waisted, straight leg trouser, that features a front slit with eyelet detailing down the outer panel and a loose, silver satin lining.

Outfit 3: A deconstructed. long length, oversized blazer that features eyelet detailing around the collar and lapel area, laced with recycled denim. Belted with continual denim strips, to add versatility to the design as this can be closed multiple ways. Styled with a green dress, this is made from a power mesh fabric and has an oversized, shift dress style. The sleeves have been extended to exaggerate length and add further drape to the dress. A denim crochet bandeau top is also included in this outfit (as pictured below), this creates texture and the close fitting pieces enhances the drape of the dress underneath.
