Untitled, 2023

My honours collection 'Untitled, 2023' is named after the countless un-named artworks in galleries and inspired by contemporary art.
For this project I've been researching the work of two contemporary artists who I found while living abroad last year called Amélie Bernard and Nicolai Howalt, who have kindly allowed me to explore their work for my collection.
I'm looking between the links of art and fashion and re-contextualising what they do as artist for clothing and wearable design. From each artist I've taken different inspirations such as Howalt's use of colour and Bernard's use of material and texture.
For this project I have used only natural plastic free fabrics, mostly deadstock such as dead stock pure silk, dead stock woven wools from British mills, leather, and cotton and well as waxed cotton from Scottish manufacturers Halley Stevenson.
Each garment is inspired by a different aspect of art whether it be colour on a blank canvas, sculpture, suspension, or 'mixed media'
