More To The Story

A unique and powerful collection evoking storytelling whilst breaking barriers.
My collection was inspired by communication barriers and my experience studying in France. After becoming aware of the struggle's individuals face, I created a collection of garments that tell a story through visual and tactile imagery. The collection is designed to be universally accessible and was influenced by a focus group from DeafBlind Scotland.

The concept behind my work. The power of tactile and visual imagery in evoking storytelling whilst also breaking barriers to communication. From the very start of my research I knew I wanted to incorporate texture and use materials that provide interesting compositions for individuals to touch. It was important that I made my collection as 3D as I possibly could whilst also providing the elements I wanted to feature throughout my collection. I wanted to create garments that are unique as after all my clothing is created for all human beings who should embrace their individuality. I believe everything that makes a person different to one another should be celebrated.

Chosen textures and colour palette. I opted for fuchsia pink, cobalt blue , black and nude for the collection as I believe these are colours that compliment individuals. I added thread to show veins in the first image featured in collage and on the far right you can see the eye shape I also feature in 3 of my garments.

A sneak peak into my collection. The hands featured on my design were created from latex and then stuffed with cotton wool and set with powder. The black embellishments are influenced to reflect braille and the colours were chosen after the focus group I was working with made it known to I that they are bored of opting for bland colours and want to be more bold in their choices/ what they are usually guided towards purchasing and wearing.
